CAP receives grant from Literacy Coalition of Madison County

CAP recently received a $2,500 grant from the Literacy Coalition of Madison County.  Our Early Head Start department is partnering with the Reading League to provide 3 trainings to Family Support Workers throughout the net year.  We are also collaborating with Mohawk Valley Community Action Home Visiting Programs and CAP Healthy Families NY to provide this training to approximately 25 home visitors.  The training will consist of an adult literacy strategy and a child literacy strategy to use during home visits.  Each training will focus on a different strategy for increasing literacy development of both children and parents in the programs.

Demographics show approximately 10% of our parents do not have a high school diploma or equivalent.  Some of our parents have lower literacy levels.  By using strategies to increase both parent and child literacy levels we are hoping to increase achievement later in school and parent ability to advocate for their child.
